Former Liverpool wonderkid has contract brutally terminated by Jose Mourinho

Only a handful of months into the second year of a four-year contract , former Liverpool youth player Ryan Kent had his contract terminated by Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce .

Kent, 27, was mostly frozen out of the squad since February after a failed deadline-day move in the winter transfer window to Italian side Lazio. The termination concludes a horror year-and-change for the former Liverpool player.

Once a real contender for the England squad ahead of Euro 2020, Kent will now look to join a new club. "The contract with Ryan Kent, one of the Professional Football A Team players, has been terminated by mutual agreement," Fenerbahce announced in a statement. "We present it to the public."

Kent made just one league start for Fenerbahce last season and failed to record a goal involvement in his 144 minutes. He started six times for the club in the conference league and logged a single assist.

The former England youth international appeared once this season for Mourinho, logging 68 minutes against Lugano in the second round of Champions League qualification in late July.

Kent would crack the Fenerbahce bench just once more (for the second leg against Lugano). He will look to secure a move to side where he can earn more playing time.

Kent joined the Liverpool academy at the age of 7 and joined the first team for preseason in the summer of 2015. He would move to Coventry City on loan before excelling at Barnsley during the 2016/17 campaign, earning the club's Young Player of the Year award.

He would join his former Liverpool academy coach Steven Gerrard at Ibrox in the summer of 2018, earning a £6.5 million ($8 million) move to Rangers in the summer for 2018.

Kent was arguably the best player in the Scottish Premier League for a few seasons, earning two spots in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year. He scored 10 goals and tallied nine assists as Rangers ended Celtic's dominant reign in the SPL in 2020/21.

As his contract wound down, Kent was linked with a move to various English clubs but ultimately decided to try his trade in the Turkish capital with Fenerbahce. After a slow first season, he reportedly rejected 21 clubs in the summer to stay in Turkey - partially due to his contract with Fenerbahce.

Kent could pursue a move to Saudi Arabia and team up with Gerrard once again, this time for Al-Ettifaq. Still only 27, the winger has more than enough time to get his career back on track.
