NORTH PORT — It turns out appreciation is also a dish that’s best served cold.

Florida Power & Light linemen and contractors were treated with ice cream courtesy of the North Port Police Department’s “Protect & Serve” van on Tuesday at CoolToday Park.

NPPD expressed its gratitude to the FPL staff working nonstop to restore power in the region.

Hundreds of thousands experienced outages due to high winds from Hurricane Milton in Charlotte, DeSoto and Sarasota counties.

As of midday Wednesday, 2,120 remained without power in Sarasota County and 790 were without it in Charlotte County.

A local business, Do The Happy Bounce, donated the ice cream, while NPPD staff, including Police Chief Todd Garrison and Deputy Chief Christopher Morales, handed it out.

“Working in this Florida heat isn’t for the weak,” NPPD stated on social media. “Not all heroes wear capes. We appreciate all you have done and continue to do.”
