Rams Make Notable Wide Receiver Move as Cooper Kupp's Return Remains Uncertain

The Los Angeles Rams have been without their top two wide receiver stars — Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua — for the last three games.

Nacua is still on injured reserve with the knee injury he suffered in Week 1, but Kupp could make his return for this weekend's Week 7 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Kupp suffered an ankle injury in Week 2 and missed the last three games. But coming off the Rams' Week 6 bye, the veteran pass catcher is listed as questionable to play on Sunday.

Kupp notched limited practices on Wednesday and Thursday. Earlier this week, Rams head coach Sean McVay indicated that Kupp is trending in the right direction to take the field in Week 7.

That being said, the Rams may elect to take a cautious approach with their 31-year-old wide receiver — especially considering they have a short week with a Thursday night game in Week 8.

The Rams made a notable wide receiver move amid Kupp's injury uncertainty, elevating WR Xavier Smith from the practice squad to the active roster.

Smith has been elevated to the active roster in each of the Rams' last three games, meaning his only appearances this season came with Kupp on the sideline. He's recorded just two catches for six yards, but his impact has been felt on special teams.

Smith has returned three punts for 55 yards, including a 38-yard return that set up the Rams to take down the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3.

The Rams will kick off against the Raiders at 4:05 p.m. EST on Sunday.
