Commanders Bold Trade Idea For Panthers' Receiver

No Brandon Aiyuk. No Davante Adams. No Amari Cooper. No problem?

If the Washington Commanders are going to add a receiver to quarterback sensation Jayden Daniels' arsenal, maybe they can just wait for one to come to them. While Commanders' targets Aiyuk (San Francisco 49ers), Adams (New York Jets) and Cooper (Buffalo Bills) ended up with other teams, the Carolina Panthers are bringing something interesting to D.C. this Sunday other than their 1-5 record.

    Namely, Diontae Johnson.

The Commanders' offense is flying high behind Daniels and the play-calling of coordinator Kliff Kingsbury. But while Terry McLaurin has emerged as a star No. 1 receiver, Washington could use a proven veteran as a complement.

Johnson, who flourished as a Pro Bowler in 2021 with the Pittsburgh Steelers, is pretty much the only consistent offensive player for the Panthers. Carolina has already given up on last year's No. 1 overall draft pick Bryce Young and has handed the reins to retread veteran Andy Dalton.

Despite the lack of a running back and the carousel of quarterbacks, Johnson has 29 catches for 340 yards and three touchdowns. Those numbers would rank second behind McLaurin on the Commanders.

As playoff contenders bolster their rosters with receivers a couple of weeks ahead of the the NFL tradeline, the Commanders should signal their intentions with a deal for Johnson.
