Fans Respond To Indiana Fever Star Over Revelation About Playing Behind Caitlin Clark

Caitlin Clark took the WNBA by absolute storm in her rookie year. The 22-year-old led the Indiana Fever to their first playoff appearance in nearly a decade behind staggering averages of 19.2 points , 5.7 rebounds, a league-best 8.4 assists, 1.3 steals and 3.1 triples per game.
While there's no denying that playing alongside the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year does have its perks, the truth of the matter is that it has its downsides, too.
Just ask Fever star Eric Wheeler.
On Wednesday, the former All-Star came out with a revelation about her stats last season playing alongside Clark.
"The LOWEST stat line of my LIFE! Not career my LIFE.
"3.6 PPG, and 1.8 APG, 0.9 TO …and it wasn’t cause I am not good enough!!! May the journey continue 😎" Wheeler wrote on X.
It does not seem like Wheeler was complaining here. After all, she did point out that her statistical decline had nothing to do with the talent level.
At the end of the day, it's just that the Fever's offense runs through Caitlin Clark so significantly that it eats into her teammates' numbers. Not to mention that Indiana also has the likes of Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell, to name a couple, on their roster. They, too, need their fair share of time on the ball.

The fans were quick to react to Wheeler's declaration. Indiana supporters showered the veteran with messages of praise and support as they highlighted the crucial role Wheeler plays for the team.
"And yet the impact you had on the team might be the highest it’s ever been. Your role is not who you are and it’s not what you’re capable of. It’s what the team needs from you in order to win and you exemplified that this season," a comment read.
"Nahhhhh dude we know why it went down. Sacrificed for the greater good. Next year should be up With Caitlin off ball," said another.
"Stats and numbers don't always tell the whole story EW," pointed out a fan.
"I have total respect for you. Those stats do NOT show your value or heart! What you meant to your team this year will live in your teammates hearts as long as they live and breathe. Keep holding your head up high!!" a supporter stated.
"Leadership is important. And keeping the right attitude with lower stats as the team gets better overall helps you to do that effectively," a reaction read.
"You brought home 20 Ws as much as anyone else did, we all know the irreplaceable role you played this year," wrote another.
It is worth noting that Wheeler is currently an unrestricted free agent after her two-year deal with the Fever came to an end at the conclusion of the 2024 season.
The 5-foot-7 guard was named an All-Star in 2019 behind averages of 10.1 points , 3.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.2 steals -- a far cry from her production rate in 2024.
