The New Orleans Saints put together a disastrous first half in their "Thursday Night Football" matchup against the Denver Broncos, surrendering a 16-3 lead heading into the halftime break.

Rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler and the Saints offense got the ball back with less than one minute remaining in the second quarter, but were unable to put together a meaningful drive.

The first half ended with a head-scratching decision from head coach Dennis Allen. With four seconds left deep in their own territory, Allen called a timeout to stop the clock.

After the timeout, the Saints went right back out onto the field to take a knee.

Just like everyone watching, Rattler was puzzled by this decision.

“What are we doing," Rattler appeared to say after shaking his head.

Rattler, the Saints' fifth-round rookie out of South Carolina, made his first NFL start in place of an injured Derek Carr in Week 6. The first-year QB completed 22 of his 40 pass attempts for 243 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in the 51-27 blowout loss.

The Saints have lost four consecutive games and are in serious danger of dropping a fifth. New Orleans trails the visiting Broncos 26-3 in the third quarter.
