The meeting was called to order by Board President Dean Bidlack, who opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.Hearing of the Public:Ron WeisenburgerThe following students are being recognized as September “Students of the Month”:Elementary Junior High/High School: Lane Fitzwater, Dane HeitzmanJunior High/High School : Gradyn Huff-Lane Fitzwater is a first grader at Continental Elementary and the son of Cole and Megan Fitzwater-Dane Heitzman is a sixth grader at Continental Elementary and the son of Derek and Joy Heitzman.-Gradyn Huff is a senior at Continental High School and the son of Nathan and Tegan Huff.Congratulations to the following students who were selected as October “Artists of the Month”:Elementary: Hadley Morgan-Hadley is a first grader at Continental Elementary and the daughter of Ross and Catlyn Morgan.Her art piece titled “Bluey the Black Cat” is on display in the administrative office at Continental School.Junior High/High School: Hailey Starr-Hailey Starr is a junior at Continental High School and the daughter of Jessica Evans and ShawnStarr. Her art piece titled “Death-Head-Hawk-Moth” is on display in the boardroom of theadministration office at Continental School.Principal Reports:Mrs. Tracy Potts, Elementary Principal reported:•Fire Safety – The Continental Volunteer Fire Department brought two trucks and a mini house to theelementary. Volunteers shared information with the students and allowed students to examine the trucks. Thisyear students were able to spray water at the burning house. The elementary would like to thank the firedepartment volunteers. Thank you to Mr. Schmidt for organizing the activities. •Gifted testing for grades 2 and 4 will occur next few weeks. •The 3rd grade ELA test will be administered on Oct. 22nd and 24th•Grandparents Day is scheduled for November 21 and 22. Grandparents will be assigned a time to come to school with their grandchildren. There will be stations for them to explore. More information will be going out to families in the next couple of weeks. •Big Brothers/Big Sisters – We will be having the program again this year. •Donation – Marathon – Thank you to Jeremy Deken and Diana Taylor for the donation. •Upcoming events: October 18 – End 9 weeksNov. 1 – Quarter breakNovember 11 – 9:00 am Veteran’s Day Assembly Mr. Tim Eding, JH/HS Principal reported:•We had 20 students (mostly Sophomores) take the PSAT this morning.•Tomorrow, our FCCLA officers will be attending a leadership training event at Sauders Village in Archbold.•Our Juniors will be traveling to Defiance College on Friday to take a practice ACT. After the test is scored,students receive feedback on things to work on before they take the official test later this year. Students willalso receive a campus tour after the test and lunch.•Friday is the end of the 1st Quarter. Report Cards will be issued electronically via ProgressBook sometime•The Sadie Hawkins Dance will be this Friday from 7pm-10pm in the auditorium.•We will be having our 2nd Quarter “House Time” on the morning of Friday, October 25th. Chief RandyWeller will be here along with representatives from Grant Insurance and others to discuss safe driving habitsand choices with our students.•We will also be having our 1st Quarter Reward for students that meet thresholds on grades, behavior, andattendance on the afternoon of Friday, October 25th.•The American Legion’s Americanism Test will be given on Monday, October 28th. The students will go to theLegion for Breakfast and a short presentation by the Legion before taking the test. We want to be sure tothank the Legion for their support of this and many other areas they support at the school!•There is No School on Friday, November 1st for the Fall Break.•The NHS is coordinating a Red Cross Blood Drive on Monday, November 4th in the HS Gym from10am-4pm.•8th Grade Vantage Tours will be held on Wednesday, November 6th.•The Fall Play, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, will be presented on November 8th &amp; 9th at 7:00pm and November 10th at 2:30 pm.•Our annual Veterans Day Program will be on Monday, November 11th at 10:00 am in the HS Gymnasium.Treasurer’s Report:The Board was updated on the District’s financial report including investments, cash reconciliation, and Board spending plan.The Board:•Approved the following donations:$500.00 from The Blackbaud Giving Fund to the Elementary Principal Fund.$973.64 from John Brecht Estate in the name of Linda Brecht for the Community Scholarship fund.$2,500.00 Suicide Awareness 5K to support social-emotional learning.•Approved the new insurance premiums for January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025. Health carepremiums have increased by 0%; dental premiums increased by 10%. Each committee member, except thesecretary, shall be paid $25.00 per hour up to a maximum of 40 hours for work performed outside the regularworkday.
