Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory has been released from federal prison and will now serve the remainder of his sentence in a residential reentry program in Miami.

According to TMZ, the co-founder of the notorious Black Mafia Family drug trafficking organization left FCI Coleman Low correctional facility in Wildwood, Florida on Oct. 15, 2024.

Residential reentry centers, also known as halfway houses, “assist inmates who are nearing release and help inmates gradually rebuild their ties to the community and facilitate supervising ex-offenders activities during this readjustment phase,” according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Flenory will complete his sentence on Jan. 27, 2026.

The Detroit native was arrested in 2005 on drug-related charges.

Following his conviction, a federal judge in 2008, sentenced him to 30 years in prison for drug trafficking and money laundering.

Flenory’s lawyer Brittany K. Barnett released a statement to the Associated Press about his release, noting how it is a “new chapter.”

“He used his time in prison to focus on personal growth and transformation, and now he has the opportunity to begin a new chapter,” Barnett said in a statement.

“He’s out, but millions more remain trapped inside — there’s still so much work to be done. We need to push for real change, for a justice system that recognizes the dignity and potential for redemption in every individual,” she added.

Meech’s younger brother Terry “Southwest T” Flenory, who was also sentenced to 30 years, is currently serving the remainder of his sentence at a halfway house in Detroit.

Terry was granted a compassionate release from prison on May 5, 2020, due to his ailing health and an effort from the Federal Bureau of Prisons to release certain inmates to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Terry is set to go home on Aug. 17, 2025.

In 2021, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson brought the story of the Flenory brothers to the small screen with the popular series BMF.

The story follows Demetrius and Terry as they rise from the decaying streets of southwest Detroit in the late 1980s to become one of the biggest crime families in the country.

Big Meech’s son, Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr., stars as his father in the crime drama series.

The Flenory brothers were also the subject of the documentary series, Blowing Money Fast, which aired on Starz in October 2022.
