All the rest is brand new.“We totally gutted most of it,” Coholan said.He admits that he did not have a real plan for the new house, “just an idea.”Any new house, he said, would be “dictated” by the lot, which is long and narrow as it proceeds from street to the river.After vacationing in Avalon, NJ, along the Atlantic Ocean, they decided to replicate the beach houses they saw there.“It is big,” he said. “It just kept growing.”The home’s listing say that the finished product is the “perfect blend” of luxury and comfort and ideal for entertaining family and friends.Guests arrive at the charming front porch, which is Vicki’s favorite place to decorate. Neighbors tell her how much they appreciate her efforts and that they will miss it when they move.The couple did all the landscaping themselves and Vicki maintains a side vegetable garden where she grows tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and more.Inside, Dan’s home office and a living room, which is most of what remains of the original structure, are off the front foyer.First floor rooms include a relaxing sitting room which is great for reading and quiet conversation a full bathroom with a hand painted mural and restored cast iron bathtub and formal dining room, which has a pass-through window into the kitchen.Both Dan and Vicki agree that the kitchen is their favorite spot in the house.“Everyone gathers around the island,” she said.The kitchen features modern stainless appliances, black granite counters, and the large island which can comfortably seat five people.It is part of a large open space which includes a dining area, access to the back deck, and a family room. The space has a gas fireplace.The large area is perfect for entertaining. Dan and Vicki got married in the house and she decorates the home with more than 20 full-size Christmas trees during the holidays.The primary suite is on the second floor, one of the home’s four bedrooms. It is extremely spacious and has its own living room with gas fireplace, a big walk-in closet, and a bathroom with a jetted bathtub, glass walk-in shower, and double vanities.“It was not supposed to be like this,” Dan said. “We thought we would have a deck off the bedroom but then we decided we have plenty of other decks.”The walk-out lower level has its own wine cellar and full bathroom. A “really comfortable” great room, their favorite spot besides the kitchen, has a wood-burning fireplace and room enough for a billiards table and large screen TV.“It is great for ballgames,” he said.If you’re in the mood for a movie, there is a soundproof theater room down there too.On a warm day, you can walk out the great room towards a two-story pool house. It has a living room, full bathroom with shower, and an entire workout room which has views of the river to enjoy while exercising.They use the heated in-ground swimming pool into October.On the waterfront, you can relax on the 60-foot permanent dock, which has a lift for jet skis and boats. The river is home to excellent bass fishing.The couple are moving on to their next project, redoing the house at a 40-acre farm near Camillus.
