The secret Amsterdam home where Anne Frank and her family hid from the Nazis is being reconstructed for a full-scale display in New York marking 80 years since the liberation of the German concentration camp Auschwitz on January 27.

The secret annex on Amsterdam's Prinsengracht, where Frank wrote her world-famous diary, is to be reconstructed and furnished in the style of the time, the Anne Frank Foundation in Amsterdam has announced.

Frank (1929-1945) hid with her parents, sister and four other Jewish people in the annex for two years. After they were discovered by the Nazis, they were all deported. Only the father, Otto Frank, survived.

Anne died at the age of 15 in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in the spring of 1945. The foundation seeks to provide information about the origins of the persecution of Jews and show how Nazi ideology led to the Holocaust.

To this day, Anne Frank is an inspiration for many, said Ronald Leopold, Director of the Anne Frank Foundation. "The exhibition provides perspectives, geared toward younger generations, that are certain to deepen our collective understanding of Anne Frank and hopefully provide a better understanding of ourselves."

An exhibition accompanying the display is set explore the life of Anne Frank, from her childhood years in Germany's Frankfurt to her persecution and relocation to Amsterdam, her hiding, arrest, deportation and death.

According to the foundation, around one hundred original objects from the Amsterdam museum's collection, such as photo albums and letters, will also be on display. However, the original red-chequered diary remains in the Netherlands.
