Despite being one of the NFL’s best coaches since he was hired in 2021, last year’s disappointment and his emotions have led some to believe Sirianni is not mature enough to continue being a good head coach.<a href="https://www.nj.com/eagles/2024/10/eagles-return-from-bye-week-with-unimpressive-win-over-struggling-browns.html">During the Eagles’ 20-16 win over the Cleveland Browns</a> last Sunday, Sirianni was caught yelling at Eagles fans. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/shorts/iGOpiG2MSsk">Sirianni cupped one of his ears</a> to block out the noise. Then, he began screaming at the fans. When he walked away from the argument, Sirianni was clearly frustrated as he waved his arms forcefully. ESPN analyst <a href="https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&amp;rls=en&amp;q=Damien+Woody%2C+nj.com&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;oe=UTF-8">Damien Woody,</a> who played 12 years in the NFL, <a href="https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&amp;rls=en&amp;q=called+Sirianni+%E2%80%9Ca+clown%E2%80%9D+for+shouting+at+the+fans+woodty&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;oe=UTF-8">called Sirianni “a clown” for shouting at the fans.</a> Former <a href="https://www.nj.com/jets/">Jets</a> coach <a href="https://www.nj.com/sports/2023/02/ex-jets-coach-rex-ryan-misses-out-on-defensive-coordinator-job.html">Rex Ryan</a> said Sirianni needs <a href="https://x.com/awfulannouncing/status/1845828201001410816">“to get over himself”</a> because he didn’t like that Sirianni criticized the Eagles fans who booed. Many other media members, <a href="https://x.com/ChaseDaniel/status/1846936029787570554?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet">including a group of ex-NFL players</a>, have ripped Sirianni in recent days.Sirianni defended his behavior after last Sunday’s game, saying that he was “just excited to get the win.” <a href="https://www.nj.com/eagles/2024/10/eagles-nick-sirianni-expresses-remorse-and-regret-over-end-of-game-exchange-with-fans.html">He later apologized</a> for how he acted.Sirianni’s critics will be watching how he composes himself on Sunday when <a href="https://www.nj.com/eagles/2024/10/eagles-giants-rivalry-has-never-had-a-moment-like-this-before.html">the Eagles visit the New York Giants</a>. Sirianni is a passionate coach who sometimes loses control of his emotions. He yelled at Chiefs fans last year, too, which was another incident that some people didn’t like.Sirianni said Sunday that some of his players asked him during their bye week to be more animated, but to what extent?NJ Advance Media spent the past couple of days talking to Eagles players to get their perspective on Sirianni’s antics. Here are the answers from eight players, all with varying time spent with Sirianni. The interviews have been lightly edited for length and clarity.Running back <a href="https://www.nj.com/eagles/2023/11/eagles-kenneth-gainwell-talks-about-why-he-replied-to-dm-during-halftime-of-last-weeks-game.html">Kenneth Gainwell,</a> who has played under Sirianni for four years:“He’s arrogant. He’s the coach. He’s aggressive. I mean, he’s the boss. There’s no other way you can look at it. He just wants to (help us) as the head coach. And he’s special with it. ...“I love (the way he acted after the Browns’ game) because there’s a lot of fans out here that don’t know football. But sometimes when your coach does things like that, then the players see that and it’s not being a leader. Most guys wouldn’t like it. But at the same time, it’s like, ‘Coach be yourself.’ If that’s how you want to be, you can’t criticize him for doing that.”Safety <a href="https://www.nj.com/eagles/2024/01/why-eagles-sydney-browns-absence-will-greatly-affect-the-team-in-2-areas.html">Sydney Brown</a>, who has played for Sirianni the last two years:“I love coach. There’s no other way to put it. I love the passion he has for the game. I don’t think I’ve ever met somebody so obsessed with football. The way that he prepares, the way that he talks to us. He just has so much passion for this game. I just love playing for him. There isn’t a guy in this league that I want to play for more than Nick Sirianni. What people get twisted is when you attack somebody enough, they’re going to respond. I’d do the same thing. Everybody in this locker room would do the same thing. I love the (expletive) talk. I love what he was doing. I’d be doing the same (expletive) thing. I don’t see anything wrong with it. I respect everything that he’s doing.“I can’t imagine (how they would react) if there were 60,000 of us football players going to their workplace and screaming in their faces on how to be a football coach. They’d lose their minds, too. He’s a professional coach. He’s got this (expletive) under control. Nobody needs to be commenting on what he’s doing. If enough people get on you, you’re going to respond. That’s how it happened. I don’t see anything wrong with it. The media trying to create a bad imagine for that stuff is (expletive). It’s literally (expletive).”Linebacker <a href="https://www.nj.com/eagles/2023/11/eagles-defense-loses-key-player-for-extended-time-again.html">Nakobe Dean</a>, who has played under Sirianni for three years:“You see how passionate he is ? A lot of times when fans give us flak, we always kind of say, ‘The city is passionate.’ So when Nick Sirianni does all of them things, he’s just real passionate about winning. For me, I don’t really care. I don’t care about his antics. It doesn’t mess with us at all in here. … I love him. I love the coach. I’m 100% percent behind him. If you ask myself, it’s kind of like (what) JC (Eagles defensive <a href="https://www.nj.com/eagles/2024/08/this-eagles-d-lineman-has-a-new-goal-after-missing-out-on-a-lofty-expectation-he-wanted-last-season.html">Jalen Carter</a>) did against the Saints. JC when he goes out there, he’s talking and doing his thing. Like BG (Eagles defensive end <a href="https://www.nj.com/eagles/2023/11/eagles-veteran-about-to-break-a-record-gave-this-advice-to-his-younger-teammates.html">Brandon Graham</a>) gets himself going when he talks. It’s the same ole thing with Nick. Now, the energy could have been directed toward other places, but still it’s the same thing if you ask me. (I love playing for him) exactly for what he’s getting all the flak for. Him being so passionate about winning and passionate about his guys. A lot of guys come here from other teams, who say they haven’t had a coach that congratulated them, was really passionate or talked to them the way Nick does.“(My favorite moment of Nick is) after we beat the Saints. He was in the locker room (singing with an energetic tone). He just wouldn’t shut up. He kept saying (the same words) over and over. When we get on the bus to go home, he’s yelling it out loud. It’s just little stuff like that. It’s like you can vibe with him like he’s one of the guys almost.”Cornerback <a href="https://www.nj.com/eagles/2024/05/eagles-isaiah-rodgers-learned-this-harsh-lesson-during-suspension.html">Isaiah Rodgers</a>, who first met Sirianni when he played with the <a href="https://go.skimresources.com/?id=126006X1587338&amp;xs=1&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.espn.com%2Fnfl%2Fteam%2F_%2Fname%2Find%2Findianapolis-colts">Colts</a> in 2020:“I love it. It gets us fired up. You don’t want to go out there and be battling with the guys and making plays and celebrating and things like that and then your coach is dead in the energy.“I feel like the people speaking on it are people we could care less about. (They’re) sitting on the couch and got things to say. All that matters is what we have in here and the guys around us. I don’t think people on the outside (matter). It is what it is.”Center <a href="https://www.nj.com/eagles/2024/07/eagles-add-a-former-giant-to-their-offensive-line-mix.html">Nick Gates</a>, who joined the Eagles during training camp:“I think there’s a time and a place for it. I like his animation. He’s excited to come (to the games). We won a football game. That’s not easy to do in the NFL. I understand (the criticism), but emotions are high after you win a football game.”Safety <a href="https://www.nj.com/eagles/2024/04/why-eagles-reed-blankenship-just-had-a-great-day.html">Reed Blankenship</a>, who has played under Sirianni for three years:“That’s his personality. I’ve known a lot of people that have that type of personality. It doesn’t bother me. Feel like the media takes it to another level. Let him do what he wants. He’s having fun with it.”Offensive guard <a href="https://www.nj.com/eagles/2024/04/eagles-have-right-mentors-in-place-but-only-mekhi-becton-can-resurrect-his-own-career.html">Mekhi Becton</a>, who signed a one-year deal with the Eagles in May:“There’s a time and place for all of it. I don’t have no problem with it. It doesn’t bother me at all. He is definitely a trash talker. He’s a competitor. He’ll talk trash to you, for sure.”Running back <a href="https://www.nj.com/eagles/2024/04/nfl-draft-2024-scouting-reports-for-eagles-second-round-pick-will-shipley.html">Will Shipley</a>, who was drafted by the Eagles this year:“It’s kind of a part of being in Philly. Whether you do things right or do things wrong, people are going to be on top of you, especially when you’re in a position like (Nick) is. To be able to get up, to move forward and just have the courage to never stop, to never bat an eye (stands out to me). He’s always bringing the energy. And like I said, he’s always holding people accountable to getting themselves better, including himself.
