The wait is almost over!It has been three years that drivers on LA Hwy 1 near Oil City have had to take the long way around because the <a href="https://mykisscountry937.com/work-to-begin-later-this-month-to-replace-hwy-1-bridge-over-caddo-lake/">bridge over Caddo Lake was out.</a><figure><img src="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?type=thumbnail_580x000&amp;url=4eYbew_0wC5ZkxO00" alt="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=4eYbew_0wC5ZkxO00" width="462" height="367" ><figcaption>Google Maps</figcaption></figure>According to an article from <a href="https://www.ktbs.com/news/new-caddo-lake-bridge-to-open-saturday/article_c36207ec-8b23-11ef-b784-fbd7a497117b.html">KTBS.com</a>, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is set to open the new Caddo Lake Bridge making for a much shorter drive up Highway 1 in the Mooringsport area.<figure><img src="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?type=thumbnail_580x000&amp;url=0O7je6_0wC5ZkxO00" alt="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=0O7je6_0wC5ZkxO00" width="746" height="562" ><figcaption>Photo from La DOTD</figcaption></figure>DOTD began construction of the new $17.3 million bridge in October of 2021 and closed the old bridge, which was constructed in 1940, in December of 2021, so, for the past three years, drivers were forced to make a detour through Mooringsport which cost those travelers an extra 10 to fifteen minutes for each trip.<a href="https://www.ktbs.com/news/new-caddo-lake-bridge-to-open-saturday/article_c36207ec-8b23-11ef-b784-fbd7a497117b.html">KTBS</a> states that there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the south side of the bridge near Drift Inn Landing at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 19.
