Orlando Woman Fatally Struck by Semi-Truck After Tire Blowout on Florida’s Turnpike

Osceola County, FL — October 18, 2024:

A fatal crash on Florida’s Turnpike early Friday morning has claimed the life of a 39-year-old Orlando woman, the Florida Highway Patrol has confirmed.

The incident occurred around 1:02 a.m. near mile marker 202 in the southbound lanes. Authorities report that the woman was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Captiva Sport when a tire blew out, causing her vehicle to swerve off the road and strike the center guardrail. Her SUV came to rest partially in the outside lane and shoulder.

After exiting her vehicle, the woman was struck by a semi-truck driven by a 66-year-old man from North Lauderdale. The semi-truck collided with both the SUV and the driver, causing the truck to overturn after running off the road. The truck driver was not injured.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of family members.

The crash is under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
