Everglades Outpost Wildlife Center Under Contract With Homebuilder. Townhomes Possible As A Result.

I sometimes write about unconventional property in Florida being redeveloped for housing. Examples are Florida's historical Bell Shoals Church possibly becoming townhomes and JMC Groves being sold for over $16 million to a homebuilder. And now, the Florida attraction Everglades Outpost Wildlife Center might be getting the same treatment, with townhomes ultimately eventually possible.

About Everglades Outpost Wildlife Center: This attraction was founded in the early 1990s by Bob Frier and his wife Barbara. The couple takes in injured wildlife and rehabilitates the animals to re-release them into the wild.

Visitors are welcome and the attraction offers shows about Florida wildlife, educational experiences, tours, and field trips.

Many Floridians enjoy the attraction, as it receives a 4.4 out of 5 rating on Google reviews.

For example, a reviewer named Lauren wrote, in part:

"...Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly, and we enjoyed meeting all the animals, hearing their stories, petting, and feeding them. We were surprised to be able to pet/feed so many! It was a memorable experience for sure and we highly recommend the tour to everyone visiting the area..."

And a reviewer named Denise wrote, in part:

"...The staff and volunteers are very knowledgeable, and take lots of time to talk to you. The animals are very well taken care of, and their habitats are very clean...We also did the alligator swim with Chris Gillette. It was incredible."

The Property Is Reportedly Under Contract With Lennar Homes: According to the South Florida Business Journal, the property in Homestead is under contract with Lennar Homes, which wants to rezone it from an “agricultural district” to a “limited apartment house district.” A site plan reportedly outlines the possibility of 78 townhomes in seven buildings. The property is just over six acres.

Lennar Homes has built over one million new homes since its founding in 1954.

The author is not affiliated with the Everglades Outpost Wildlife Center or Lennar Homes.
