In-State Wideout Calls Clemson One of His 'Dream Schools'

An in-state sophomore receiver made his return to Clemson recently.

After attending camp last summer, 2027 wideout Darius Carter (Ridge View) made his first game day visit to Clemson for the Tigers’ Homecoming game against Stanford.

Carter has been impressed with the improvement the Clemson offense has displayed this season and getting to watch it in person only solidified those thoughts.

“I think they’re on the right track, honestly,” Carter told The Clemson Insider. “Because I just saw so much chemistry at all positions. The O-Line, at the quarterback position, the receivers. It really just stood out to me the most. The quarterback and the receivers, they’re on the same page. I really think they are going to make a good run this year.”

It’s an offense the 5-foot-10 slot receiver could easily see himself playing in.

“Just my work ethic, how my routes are, and just how dedicated I am to help the team,” Carter added. “Because I’m honestly a team player. I don’t really care if I get the ball. I just want to help out the team. I mean, I’m always gonna be open, because I’m just a hard-working player. If I’m not getting the ball, I’m always running my routes 100-percent. I’m always blocking, because blocking is number one as a receiver. You’re going to have to block. It’s not always going to be a pass play. There are going to be some runs in there too. I just think I’ll be good (in it).”

Carter was also extremely impressed with Clemson’s P.A.W. Journey program, which prepares the players for life after football.

“P.A.W. Journey. I think it was ‘Passionate About Winning'”, Carter said. “They were just talking about how some football players are in the program, and it showed you how to be a better man.”

Being just a sophomore, Carter is still extremely early in the recruiting process. He did just recently pick up his first offer from Charlotte and has also visited South Carolina this season.

Carter is well-aware that Clemson won’t even start handing out offers to players in his class until next summer, but he also knows patience pays off, and an offer from the Tigers is one he would surely like to add at some point in the future.

“It would just make me stop, sit there and be like, ‘wow, all this hard work that I put in paid off.’ To just finally get noticed by one of my dream schools. It would really mean a lot just knowing that I put in all the work to just take it up to the next level, into the D-1 level.”
