<body><div><figure><img src="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?type=thumbnail_580x000&amp;url=0ixov5_0wCB9b9t00" alt="https://img.particlenews.com/image.php?url=0ixov5_0wCB9b9t00" width="1766" height="1173" ></figure><h2>Spencer Jaycees geared up for annual haunted house</h2>Get a good fright, and help fill up the local food banks, all in one night.That’s the goal each year with Spencer Jaycees and their haunted house fundraiser at the Clay County Fairgrounds.Nightmare at the Fair will once again be hosted at the Tower Gate Pavilion, frightenly transformed into a tower of terror for four spooky nights.Hours will be 7-11 p.m. Oct. 18, 19, 25 and 26 with admission costing $15, or just $10 if visitors bring two nonperishable items to donate to Upper Des Moines Opportunity, Inc.Jaycees member Jaden Bridges says visitors are once again in for spooky good time.“We do a different maze every year to keep it fun and fresh and this year we were able to put together the rooms pretty quickly. We’re lucky to have this space at the fairgrounds with a nice, set building each year so we know the square footage and what we’re working with ahead of time,” Bridges said. “There’s some cool stuff in the hallways with different lighting effect and things of that nature, and of course the coffins and things like that for folks to look forward to, so I think it will be four big rooms and a lot of scary hallways.”While it takes a lot of work to put together, Bridges said they have a lot of fun in the process, and of course the fruits of their labor pay off when they can give a good fright to their visitors.In addition to the screams of fright and delight, the Jaycees hope to get their fill of food donations this year.“Those non-perishables and canned donations are a big piece of what we’re trying to do as we try to help get Upper Des Moines and the food banks stocked back up for the holidays,” Bridges said.In turn, those donations and admission costs help fund the Jaycees biggest annual event, the Tree of Joy, and with the after effects of the summer floods still being felt in a big way, they hope to have their biggest event ever this winter.“We’re generally able to help around 100 kids, which is about 40 families every year, so we’re hoping to double that number, depending on what we can get from the haunted house, to about 200 kids or about 75-80 families,” Bridge said.It starts with having a frightfully good time during Nightmare at the Fair.“There is truly something for everyone even if you don’t love scary things, it’s a fun maze I think to walk though and hopefully at least get your adrenaline going,” Bridges. “Even if you’d done it before we change things up enough to keep everyone on their toes.”</div></body>
