Sounds like some of the good times might be over for Koe Wetzel . Today, the Texas rocker released a new song called "Good Times,” which comes in the heels of his 9 Lives album that was released back in July. Written by Koe alongside Steph Jones, Charlie Handsome, Josh Serrato and producer Gabe Simon, it's certainly a change of pace from his usual hard charging, in your face kind of music that largely focuses on all of his wild nights out and the consequences of having a little too much fun. "Good Times" follows a lot the themes on 9 Lives about growing up and settling down (just a little bit), as he sings how he’s been running on booze and pills for so long he doesn’t really know how to stop. What he does know is that, eventually when the never-ending bender inevitably ends, he’ll be all alone if keeps going the way he has been:
"Good times they don’t need me If I take it easy Party’s gonna keep on going when I’m gone Stop drinking the whiskey She won’t even miss me She’s gonna find another one to keep her warm Pounding up in my head Strangers up in my bed Forgetting the best years of my life Good times they don’t need me They don’t need me" Koe says he wanted to put out a new song for fans ahead of his trek to Europe next week: “One of the coolest parts of being on the road all summer has been celebrating this new album with the fans every night. Going overseas for our first real headlining run in some of these cities, it felt like the perfect time to give the fans one more new song to sing every night. We’re not giving up the good times just yet!”“
In terms of the meaning of the song itself, and the feel of the album as a whole, Koe says it's a direct reflection of where he's at in his life now and who he is outside of just the musician and person we see online: "Every record’s almost turning a new leaf, always a left turn because of how honest I am. I want fans to know that there's a different side of me, not just the sex, drugs, and rock & roll Koe that they may have heard about online. I've grown up a little bit. I’m no longer the 20-year-old kid that's partying down and getting thrown in jail all the time. 9 Lives reveals a vulnerable side that people may not be used to hearing.” "Good Times" has a cool melody and super catchy hook, and while it’s certainly not the hardcore, sex, drugs and rock and roll Koe we’re used to, I am enjoying this change of pace and more reflective, introspective Koe we’ve been hearing lately. I think fans will appreciate that too, because honestly, it makes him such a more well-rounded artist and I'm happy to see him explore that part of his music too. Check it out:
