Mark Cuban Says Harris Campaign Needs ‘Plan’ To ‘Reverse-Engineer’ Social Media Algorithms Feeding Trump’s ‘Gangsta’ Appeal

Mark Cuban argued social media algorithms are feeding former President Donald Trump’s “gangsta” appeal and Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign needs a plan to combat it.

Cuban, a campaign surrogate for Harris’s campaign, spoke with MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace on Thursday after giving a speech at a Harris rally in Wisconsin.

During a discussion on Trump’s appeal to male voters, Cuban claimed the former president has a “gangsta” appeal, making it clear he was saying “gangsta” rather than “gangster.”

“I have talked to people who said they like Trump because he’s a ‘gangsta.’ Not a gangster, a ‘gangsta,'” he said. “I’m like, that’s why you’re going to vote for him?”

Cuban argued younger generations are addicted to scrolling social media and this is how “aggressive” pro-Trump content is devoured.

The Shark Tank investor said:

For guys, in particular, you start with football, you go to another sport, you see women, and then all of a sudden you’re seeing something that is aggressive. It could be an Andrew Tate, it could be whoever, and that leads you to getting content, memes in particular, for Donald Trump. When you see those memes repeated hundreds and hundreds of times a day, you can’t expect them to all of a sudden start reading to find out if it’s true, to find out if the information is accurate.

Cuban revealed he’s talked to Harris’s campaign about a “plan” to “reverse-engineer” these algorithms.

“It’s just nonstop repetition and that influences their decision-making, and so the campaign, and we have talked about it, has got to come up and reverse-engineer these algorithms and come up with a response,” he said.

Cuban pointed out Elon Musk’s X as a platform walled with pro-Trump content — Musk endorsed and has campaigned for Trump. The entrepreneur has admitted in the past he loves trolling Musk. He’s also accused media of leaning right , arguing the biggest platforms belong to conservative-leaning content creators.

Cuban was a brief supporter of Trump in the 2016 presidential election, but he’s described Trump being unreceptive to advice and refusing to “learn the issues” as why he quickly grew out of it.

“He sent me, ‘What happened?’ because he saw a CNN interview where I criticized him. And I literally, I told him, you’ve got to start learning the issues. You can’t just talk,” Cuban recently told comedian Theo Von . “At some point all of these things are important and if you’re going to be president, you’ve got a chance to win, then you’ve got to learn this stuff, and I just felt he never made an effort to learn anything.”
