Donald Trump revealed that some Fox News employees helped him write jokes for his speech at the Al Smith Dinner.

The former president appeared in person Friday morning on "Fox & Friends," where he told the hosts that some of their colleagues helped him write some of the jokes he delivered at the white-tie charity dinner, although he complained about their quality.

"I've had a lot of people helping, a lot of people – a couple people from Fox actually," Trump said. "I shouldn't say that, but they wrote some jokes and, for the most part, I didn't like any of them."

CNN's John Berman hosted a discussion on the topic, and he pointed out that some individuals associated with "Saturday Night Live" had helped Democratic politicians write material in the past, but he said that Fox News was nominally a news organization.

"At least they have the word 'news' in their station," he said.

Panelist Kendra Barkoff, who served as press secretary to Joe Biden during his vice presidency, agreed that news operations shouldn't be helping politicians punch up their speeches.

"I mean, it's inappropriate, completely inappropriate, I would just say as a whole," Barkoff said. "But if you look at the dinner last night, I mean, his jokes as a whole, were crude. They were out of line, he took it way too far. I believe swearing in front of priests is not something and that I would advise, talking about [Kamala Harris' husband] Doug [Emhoff] and watch out for the nannies. I mean, it's just – he took everything way too far and there's a reason I think why Kamala Harris chose to skip the dinner."
