Another new one from Kip Moore . Today, he released a new song called "Learning As I Go," which was written by Kip along with Dan Couch, Luke Preston and Oscar Charles. It comes on the heels of what was his first new single in almost two years "Live Here To Work," which is a rocking, guitar-driven anthem that finds him sticking it to the man and giving the (figurative) middle finger to the rat race of the work culture I think we can all relate to in some capacity, no matter what you do for a living. The last time we heard from Kip in an official capacity in terms of music until this month was when he put out his fifth studio album Damn Love in early 2023, though he’s turned the page to a new chapter, now
signed with Virgin Music Group , after leaving his longtime label MCA Nashville earlier this year. Kip says "Learning As I Go" is about the universal feeling of feeling like a failure if you make a mistake or two, and the importance of embracing them as lessons rather than just another bad break: "I just recorded ‘Learning As I Go’ before I left for Australia, and the feeling in the studio and then once we got the recording back, was so palpable, we wanted to get it out there as soon as possible. I think it’s a pretty universal feeling to feel like a failure if you slip up once or twice, but there is a beauty in learning from those perceived ‘mistakes’ that I think we sometimes miss. This track is about embracing the lessons instead of beating yourself up about not getting it right the first time."
He takes a good, hard look in the mirror in the lyrics, admitting his faults while owning up to them and learning from it all: "I took a loose deal in a tight spot It came back to bite me bad Had a feeling in my gut But I still shook his hand He ran with all my money Left me with the bag Had to sell my truck, couldn't pay the note I'm learning as I go " With Kip being on a new label and more new music likely on the way, it feels like he’s getting back to the music he does best in terms of the gritty, rough and rowdy sound and songs he made a name with. I think a fresh perspective and new chapter just lends itself to creativity and new ideas, and I'm excited to hear more whenever the time comes.
