Mets predicted to trade for White Sox 'hugely valuable asset' this offseason

The New York Mets could be motivated to add an ace to their pitching staff this winter.

Barring a miraculous comeback, it looks the Mets are going to come a few wins short of reaching the World Series, but it’s been a historic and uplifting season.

The good news for New York is that they have a talented core of young players including Francisco Lindor and Mark Vientos who will ensure that the Mets remain relevant for the next decade.

New York can enhance its contention chances heading into next season by acquiring top-end pitching talent, which is exactly what Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer believes the Mets will do.

Rymer asserted on Friday that New York could pursue White Sox All-Star hurler Garrett Crochet on the trade market this offseason.

“In case anyone needs a quick recap of a complex story, Garrett Crochet seemed as good as gone at the trade deadline right up until he tried to leverage the situation to his advantage,” Rymer said.

“That involved threatening to sit out the postseason if he didn't get a contract extension from his new team. An empty threat? Almost certainly. But it effectively killed his market all the same.”

“The White Sox are nonetheless sure to try to trade Crochet again this winter. He's a hugely valuable asset, as he's an All-Star who's only 25 and under club control through 2026. And after a 121-loss season, the White Sox need prospects a lot more than they need an ace pitcher.”

“Potential Fits: Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, Baltimore Orioles.”

Crochet would provide the Mets with another powerful presence in the rotation for when the playoffs roll around next autumn.

Provided he can stay healthy and offer similar production to the last couple of seasons, Crochet would be an excellent acquisition for the rising Mets.
