Known for its horse and buggies, fabulous food, and slower pace of life, it’s no wonder that Ohio’s Amish Country draws visitors from near and far. When you’re ready for a fun road trip, here are a few Amish communities where you can “get lost” in the stunning scenery:

    Dalton

Home to around 2,000 residents, Dalton is an “untouched tourist area off the traditional Amish tourist path.” Nestled in Wayne County, this small, friendly village is where you can experience the charm and history of the Lincoln Highway or get up close to nature on the Sippo Valley Trail.

After a day of exploration, refuel at the Dutch Kitchen. It offers hearty dishes made from Amish and Mennonite recipes, and you’ll want to save room for a cinnamon roll or fry pie.

    Sugarcreek

One of the most popular stops in Ohio’s Amish Country, Sugarcreek boasts Alpine-style architecture, earning it the nickname, Little Switzerland. It’s home to the world’s largest cuckoo clock and is known for hosting the annual Ohio Swiss Festival.

Other popular stops include The Gospel Shop, The Harvest Thrift Store, and the Dutch Valley Restaurant, which serves all-you-can-eat lunch and dinner buffets.

    Mesopotamia

With 21 buildings constructed before the Civil War, Mesopotamia offers a trip back in time. A horse and buggy ride provides a fun way to see the countryside, and dining inside an Amish family’s home is a treat that’s not to be missed.

Before leaving Mesopotamia, stop by the End of the Commons General Store. It’s the oldest general store in Ohio and features thousands of goods, including some of the tastiest fry pies around.

    Orrville

A small city unlike any other, Orrville is a community steeped in history and tradition. Founded in the early 19th century, the city now known across the country as the home of The J.M. Smucker Company.

No visit to Orrville is complete without stopping by the company’s store and cafe for your favorite coffee, fruit spreads, and more.

    Millersburg

Millersburg offers a relaxing getaway where you can witness the natural beauty by bicycle, horseback, and even a buggy. It offers a glimpse into the simple lives of the Amish and features quaint shops with everything from furniture to handmade crafts.

To satisfy your sweet tooth, stop by Hershberger’s Farm and Bakery. You won’t be disappointed.
