Let’s be honest: Expressing our emotions in a healthy way can be super difficult. That’s why it’s so inspiring to see an increase in parents who are helping their kids learn to be emotionally intelligent at a young age. Doing so isn’t always easy , of course, but it’s clear that Carlos and Pat work hard to give their daughter the space she needs to feel and express herself. This shines through beautifully during a visit to the beach.

Although this family of three were having a blast together, at some point, Maison became visibly upset. She took a seat on their chair, resting her face in the palms of her hands. Wanting to understand what was wrong, these caring dads sat down with her, asking her questions that would help her open up — and the results are heartwarming.

At first, it seems Maison may be upset with her dads. But by asking questions, Maison finds the words to express what she is actually feeling: frustration with herself. Turns out, the toddler was too afraid to put her feet in the water. This left her feeling upset. Luckily, her dads were quick to reassure her that she could try again, if she wanted… and she did!

This 2-Year-Old Girl’s Emotional Intelligence Inspires People of All Ages

“She’s only 2?? Her ability to process and communicate her thoughts and feelings is so impressive!” someone writes in the comments, with another adding , “You gave her a safe way to explore her feelings and try again! If only all parents tried to do the same for their child.”

“What a sweetie. This is such a good reminder that everyone, even toddlers, are hard enough on themselves,” a third person points out, “they just need love and understanding from us, not pressure.”
