In a recent interview, Ryan reflected on the show’s success, negative reactions to it and if he was interested in adding additional episodes thanks to developments in the case. Ryan told Variety that he and co-creator Ian Brennan “are in absolute amazement and shock that this has happened, to be quite honest.”“When we were writing the Menendez Story — we’ve been working on this for two years — nobody was talking about the Menendez brothers. We never thought anybody ever would again,” he admitted.He added that he did not advocate for anyone being “thrown away forever,” expressing hope that Erik and Lyle would be freed. While the brothers’ attorney Mark Geragos has slammed the show as a “caricature,” Ryan said that he believed their “dramatization” of sexual abuse allegations “really moved the needle with an outpouring of outrage.” “As [Geragos] himself admitted, that case was nowhere. It was floundering. There was no interest. There was no momentum,” he said.
