What To Know To Watch Capitals Games This Season

For Washington Capitals alumnus and color commentator Craig Laughlin, this year in the broadcast booth with Joe Beninati promises to be different.

Laughlin and Monumental Sports Network rang in the team's 50th anniversary on Saturday with the first game of the season, and there are more plans from the network to celebrate the festivities going forward.

"We're weaving in history," Laughlin said. "This season will have the most comprehensive coverage yet."

Beninati and Laughlin lead the broadcast crew for their 27th season together as one of the longest-tenured commentating duos in the NHL.

"We're an oddball couple, but we're really best friends," Laughlin laughed.

Monumental Sports Network will broadcast 69 regular-season games, including five in Spanish language. Thirteen games will be nationally televised, including five on TNT, two on ABC and four on ESPN.

Fans can access the network through different TV providers or sign up for a direct-to-consumer subscription on Monumental+. Fubo dropped Monumental in June, so subscribers will not be able to access the channel through Fubo TV going forward, even if they paid extra for the RSN add-on.

The network is also providing users with a multiview feature in order to watch multiple games at once, and will also track Alex Ovechkin as he chases down Wayne Gretzky's all-time goals record.

In addition to Capitals games, Hershey Bears games will also be broadcast on the network. Washington's AHL affiliate is coming off of back-to-back Calder Cup titles.

Beyond game coverage, Monumental will also feature Alexa Landestoy, Alan May and more talent in a number of shows like Caps Red Line in order to provide fans with a behind-the-scenes look at the team.

"It's a 24-hour experience," Friday Abernethy, the general manager of Monumental Sports Network, said.
