The Washington Capitals have looked a lot stronger to start the 2024-25 season, and a big part of that is the scoring prowess of Tom Wilson.

Wilson has three goals in as many games to open the year, with each of them coming from the slot. He's the team's leading goal-scorer so far and also looks more comfortable and improved than he was last season.

Despite his strong play, he's not taking all the credit.

"Good linemates," Wilson said of his scoring streak. "They're finding me in good spots. When they're going in, they're going in. So I'll keep shooting the puck, and it's been a good start as a group."

He also cited the hard work of Connor McMichael and center Pierre-Luc Dubois, who has two assists in three games and has helped set up Wilson on numerous occasions.

"He's a machine," Wilson said of No. 80.

Dylan Strome said he's noticed Wilson getting to the open ice efficiently and putting himself in good spots.

"He's finding ways to get open... he's picking corners," Strome said.

Most importantly, though, it's his effort and leadership that's paying off.

"I think he leads by example on our team. Obviously, we're missing (T.J. Oshie) in the bumper spot, but when you put a guy like Tom there, he can do almost as good a job as Osh did and he's finding ways to get open... he's doing a great job," Strome said. "It's nice to see him get rewarded and well-deserved for him. He works really hard."

Head coach Spencer Carbery agreed and noted that it's also about Wilson playing the right way.

"I think he's playing really, really well and he's being rewarded for it," Carbery said, adding, "He's getting his shot off quickly, getting it on net and not worrying about taking an extra second and a half... we need production, we need guys to put pucks in the back of the net and he's leading the way right now.'
