Production of IV fluid ramps up in California, Florida after national shortage of product

    B. Braun Medical has announced updates regarding its supply of critical IV fluids in the wake of Hurricane Milton and the damage inflicted by Hurricane Helene on a major IV fluids manufacturing plant in North Carolina. Fortunately, B. Braun's IV solutions manufacturing plant and distribution center in Daytona Beach, Florida, was largely unaffected by Hurricane Milton and resumed operations as scheduled on October 11. To secure its supply of finished products, the company collaborated with the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) to relocate 60 truckloads, totaling 70,000 cases of IV solutions, to a secure facility north of Florida, completing this operation by October 8. With the storm now passed, the products are being returned to the Daytona Beach distribution site.

To bolster the supply of IV fluids and essential medical devices, B. Braun is ramping up production at its manufacturing facilities in Irvine, California, and Daytona Beach, Florida, with an expected 20 percent increase in production levels over the coming weeks. Additionally, production of infusion therapy components—such as tubing, valves, and connectors—will be enhanced at B. Braun's plant in Allentown, Pennsylvania, resulting in over 30 million more IV sets delivered to healthcare providers annually. These efforts aim to ensure a stable supply of critical medical resources for patient care in the aftermath of the hurricanes.
