Iran is an energy superpower in the world. Petroleum products play a major role in the energy sector of the country. The Ministry of Petroleum(MOP) manages the oil industry that produces oil and petrochemical products. The exploration, extraction, and distribution of petroleum products are controlled by the Ministry of Petroleum (MOP). The import and export licenses of petroleum products are also governed by the Ministry of Petroleum. Iran earns 80% of its foreign currency earnings by exporting petroleum products. The fourth Economic Social and Cultural Plan of the Government states that at least 10 % of the activities related to exploration, extraction, and production of crude oil to the private sector by retaining the ownership.
