Longtime Atlanta Braves radio host stepping down

Longtime Atlanta Braves Radio Network reporter and host Kevin McAlpin is leaving the network after 13 years.

McAlpin announced his decision in a video posted on X.

“I wanted to take a quick minute to follow up on the story that I dropped on all of you earlier this afternoon, that yes indeed, the 2024 season will be my final year full time with the Atlanta Braves Radio Network,” McAlpin said. “You know, 13 years has gone by like that, and it has been an incredible run that I’ve had with Braves Radio.”

McAlpin spent his first eight seasons with the network as a reporter, and hosted the pre- and post-game shows on 93.7 and 680/The Fan the past five years.

The radio host said he wants to spent more time with his family.

“To be a very, very small part of the largest radio network in all of professional sports has been an absolute honor, but it’s also come with a bit of a price as well,” he said. “I’ve missed weddings, I’ve missed my kids’ birthdays, I’ve missed anniversaries with my lovely bride Melissa, I’ve missed summer vacations with the kids.

“I don’t say that looking for sympathy, because I’ve been so fortunate to be around for Chipper Jones’ final season in 2012. Nine trips to the playoffs in 13 years, pretty good run. Seven NL East titles, and of course, that night in Houston in November of 2021 that I know none of us will ever forget.”

The Braves posted a photo of McAlpin showing off his World Series ring from the team’s 2021 championship season, with the message, “Thank you for everything, @KevinMcAlpin! You’ll always be a part of #BravesCountry!”
