A group of mothers rallied outside Children's Hospital Los Angeles to raise awareness about what they say is substandard care for children.

As KNX News' Larry Perel reports, at least three mothers claim their children were subjected to unsafe care, resulting in death.

Christine Bilderain is one of those mothers. She said the issues at the hospital had been ongoing, but it was only after a county Department of Public Health director, Dr. Barbara Ferreira agreed to look into the claims that she says they were confirmed.

"My son was being dialyzed with machines that were not properly sanitized," claims Bilderain. "That's why he was getting sick as well as the other patients, and my son died of sepsis because he had an infection that he got in that unit."

Bilderain says in the end, it wasn't those claims that led to her son being 'patient dumped' by the hospital and pushed off to USC.

"I had seen a male staff member of the dialysis unit sexually assault a female patient, and I brought it to their attention promptly, and they decided not to do anything about it," said Bilderain.

She says after she pressed the facility on what she alleges she saw, they got rid of her and her son without explanation.

Bilderain said her son died at USC because the facility did not have the proper equipment and staff to care for him.

In a statement provide to KNX News by CHLA, the hospital said:

"We are aware of a protest that taking place outside Children’s Hospital Los Angeles on Sunset Boulevard. Due to privacy laws, Children's Hospital Los Angeles cannot publicly discuss individual patient cases. But as an institution that strongly adheres to compassionate, family-centered care principles and values, CHLA works closely with families to determine the best course of care for patients. Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is the largest provider of pediatric medical care in Los Angeles County and treats some of the most rare and complex injuries and illnesses. We remain committed to providing the highest quality care for children."
