CVS Pharmacy employees hit the picket lines across L.A. on Friday to protest what they claim are unfair labor practices by the company.

Members of UFCW Local 770, which represents about 7000 CVS workers, marched in front of one of the store’s locations on South Western Ave. in Mid-City. There were pickets at seven different locations.

During the rally, one of the protestors said the company participated in unlawful activities that prevented members from reaching a fair deal.

“They've been intimidating the workers, they have shorted people's hours, changed people's schedules, and retaliation for them trying to organize and build power,” one worker told the crowd. “And why do you think, why do you think they're doing this? Why are they doing this? Corporate greed. They do not want to share their huge, immense wealth with these workers.”

Union members added that they want more money and affordable health insurance.

“There are folks who have worked here for 20 years and still don't make $20 an hour,” another picketer said.

In a statement to City News Service, officials with the company said they were disappointed that the workers decided to walk out.

“We've had more than a dozen good faith negotiating sessions with the UFCW over the last several months, including six since the contract expired in June," according to a company statement. "Over the course of these discussions, we've made progress on finalizing a contract, and have already reached tentative agreements that will increase the rate of pay for store associates, with additional increases for colleagues with 5+ years of service and colleagues with 10+ years of service.”

The company added that they look forward to meeting with UFCW next Wednesday to continue negotiations.
