Simon Cowell Emotionally Shares Liam Payne’s Proudest Feat In “Heartbroken” Letter

Simon Cowell helped launch Liam Payne and his bandmates in One Direction into superstardom through his television show, The X Factor U.K. They are one of the biggest-selling boy bands of all time, with 70 million records sold worldwide. Tragically, Liam died after a fall from a hotel balcony in Argentina on October 16. Like many, Simon Cowell was shocked by Liam Payne’s death.

Simon Cowell and Liam Payne’s Last Encounter Left a Mark On Simon’s Heart

Simon, 65, shared his grief in a touching post on Instagram .  He wrote, “Liam, I am truly devastated. Heartbroken. And I feel empty. And I want you to know how much love and respect I have for you. Every tear that I have shed is a memory of you.”

Simon recalled their last encounter,

“You came to see me last year. Not for a meeting. Just to sit and talk,” Simon wrote. “And we reminisced about all of the fun times we had together. And how proud you were to be a Dad.”

Simon Cowell was proud of Liam Payne’s fatherhood journey.

“After you left, I was reminded that you were still the sweet, kind boy I met all of those years ago,” he shared. “I have met your son, Bear. He has your smile and that twinkle in his eyes you have. And he will be so proud of everything you achieved. And how you achieved it.”

Simon added that he felt like the bandmates in One Direction were a family, and their social media posts dedicated to Liam reminded him that was true.

“And now Liam, I can see the effect you had on so many people. Because you left us too soon. Rest in peace my friend,” Simon shared. “And I am sending my love, thoughts, and prayers to your family. Simon X.”
