Brown's Pro Bowl edge rusher Za'Darius Smith says he'd like to play for the Lions so he can play the Packers and the Vikings twice a year

Well geez, it's not very often that a player just comes out and says "hey! trade me over here," but that appears to be exactly what Browns' edge rusher Za'Darius Smith said to the Chronicle-Telegram this week when asked about the potential of being traded to a Super Bowl contender.

“Hate that injury happened to him, a guy that was on his way to get Defensive Player of the Year possibly,” Smith said about Aidan Hutchinson. “That’s a big loss for them. But if I was to go to Detroit, I would like it, because I get to play Green Bay twice a year and the Vikings twice a year. So, yeah, that’ll be big.”

Smith, of course, is a former Packer and a former Viking. He played for the Packers from 2019 to 2021 and was with the Vikings during the 2022 season.

Smith would be a good get for the Lions. The former All-Pro and three time Pro Bowler has not really been one of those guys that's showed their age in the league. While Smith is 32-years-old, he's still playing at a high level. He has three sacks in six games this year.

He also comes at an incredibly cheap rate since his base salary is just $1.5 million and he's owed no guaranteed money this year.

Smith did say that it's up to the Browns on whether or not they'd trade him and he really wanted to get the point across that he was firmly in on helping the Browns turn things around, but he still said this at the end.

“I’m staying positive, but now that you say that, it might be a good look, a good feel for me." We'll see what happens soon enough.

For that price, it would be hard to pass on him. I hope we get Maxx, but it would also like if we got him and Maxx. Doesn't hurt to have a good rotation or a good backup to Maxx.
