Initial investigation showed that the owner had purchased the alligator at a reptile show in Indiana earlier in the year but didn’t check to see if it was legal to own in Kentucky.

According to Kentucky Fish and Wildlife , alligators are considered inherently dangerous and cannot be possessed in Kentucky. Among alligators, buffalo, elephants, hippopotamuses, venomous snakes, and crocodiles are also prohibited.
