Caramel apple nachos are essentially thinly sliced apples (usually Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) drizzled with caramel sauce and topped with all sorts of delicious extras. Think chopped nuts, mini chocolate chips, crushed graham crackers or even sprinkles. They’re super fun to eat, and you can make them as simple or decadent as you like. I can’t help but feel nostalgic whenever I bite into a candy apple. Its shiny, red coating instantly brings back memories of my childhood. I always enjoyed them on more than one occasion, from the fall fair to our neighborhood Halloween party. But in my opinion, the best candy apples are made at home. You […]
Tips for the best caramel apple nachos
To make sure your caramel apple nachos turn out perfectly every time, here are a few simple tips to keep in mind:
1. Choose the right apples
For the best results, you want apples that are crisp and a bit tart to balance out the sweetness of the caramel. Granny Smith apples are a classic choice, but Honeycrisp is also a great option if you prefer a sweeter bite. Slice them thinly for easy snacking.
2. Make your own caramel
Store-bought caramel works in a pinch, but if you really want to impress, try making a homemade caramel sauce (we have the perfect recipe). It’s surprisingly simple—just melt butter, sugar and a bit of cream together, and you’ll have a rich, silky caramel that’s worlds better than anything you can buy at the store.
3. Go crazy with toppings
This is where the fun really starts. You can keep it simple with just caramel and a sprinkle of sea salt, or go all out with toppings like crushed Oreos, toffee bits, mini marshmallows or even a drizzle of chocolate sauce. The possibilities are endless.
4. Serve immediately
Caramel apple nachos are best when the apples are fresh and crisp, so it’s a good idea to slice the apples and assemble the nachos right before serving. If you’re worried about the apples browning, toss them with a little lemon juice or pineapple juice first.
Fall is officially here, and you know what that means—it’s time to cozy up in the kitchen with the ultimate seasonal fruit: pumpkin. I have to admit, I’m a sucker for anything pumpkin-spiced, from food to home décor. But, of course, pumpkin desserts are my favorite way to enjoy their abundance. My favorite at the […]
Party-perfect caramel apple nachos recipe
Seriously, this recipe from Simply Recipes takes almost no time at all—especially if you have an apple slicer. Plus, I love how it uses both green and red apples. Feel free to swap in your preferred toppings!
Ingredients:
1 green apple, such as Granny Smith
1 red apple, such as Gala
1/2 lemon
1/3 cup store-bought or homemade caramel sauce, warmed
1/3 cup white or semi-sweet chocolate chips, melted
Optional toppings
2 Tbs. mini chocolate chips
2 Tbs. toffee bits
2 Tbs. chopped salted peanuts
2 Tbs. mini M&Ms
2 tsp. sprinkles
Directions:
Total Time: 10 minutes
Yield: 4 servings
Cut the apples into slices, adding them to a medium bowl, squeezing lemon juice over the top, and tossing them as you go to keep them from turning brown.
Arrange the apple slices on a plate. Drizzle the caramel and melted chocolate over the top.
Top the caramel apple nachos with your choice of toppings, such as mini chocolate chips, toffee bits, chopped salted peanuts, mini M&Ms, and/or sprinkles. Serve immediately.
Storage notes:
Any leftovers should be stored in the fridge for a day or two. The apples will turn brown and some of the toppings may soften, so these are best eaten right away.
