    (KOAM) - Governor Laura Kelly announced the release of the 2024 Kansas Economic Report, which reveals a growing labor force, low unemployment, and record export numbers. The report, compiled by the Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL), analyzes the state’s economic health and labor market trends.

    Key findings include:

    • Labor Force Growth : Kansas added 8,385 workers in 2023, bringing the total labor force to over 1.51 million.
    • Low Unemployment : The state’s unemployment rate remains low at 2.7%, below the national average of 3.6%.
    • Job Market Growth : Kansas surpassed pre-pandemic job levels, adding over 27,500 jobs in 2023, with significant growth in the private sector.
    • Record Exports : Kansas reached $14.1 billion in exports, driven by transportation equipment and processed foods.

    Governor Kelly praised the state’s economic progress, while state officials emphasized the importance of addressing demographic challenges, such as a shrinking younger population. The Kansas Department of Commerce is working to attract talent through initiatives like the “Love, Kansas” campaign.
