<body><div>NEW ORLEANS – Head Coach Ron Hunter and Tulane men’s basketball announced the addition of RJ Hunter to the coaching staff ahead of the 2024-25 campaign on Thursday. RJ Hunter joins the program as a volunteer assistant coach after playing professionally for nine years.“I am thrilled to have RJ joining our staff this season,” Coach Hunter said. “With his playing experience he will bring a wealth of basketball knowledge to our student-athletes and staff to help elevate our program.”Prior to joining the Wave in Uptown, RJ spent nine seasons playing professional basketball across the NBA, G League, and internationally. In G League history RJ ranks eighth all-time in three-pointers and 27th in scoring.RJ was a first round draft pick in the 2015 NBA Draft as he was selected 28th overall by the Boston Celtics. He went on to have stints with the Celtics, Bulls, and Rockets in the NBA playing in 45 total regular season games and five playoff games. During the 2017-18 season with the Rockets, RJ recorded a career-high 19 points on 7 of 16 shooting against the Sacramento Kings.Before his professional playing career, RJ played three seasons under his father, Head Coach Ron Hunter, at Georgia State from 2012-15. He still holds multiple records for the Panthers including career records for points (1,819), threes made (253), free throw percentage (.853), and consecutive free throws made (38).During his time at Georgia State RJ earned Sun Belt Male Athlete of the Year and Player of the Year twice in 2014 and 2015. He also garnered First Team All-Sun Belt honors in 2014 and 2015 as well as CAA Rookie of the Year in 2013. In his final season for the Panthers, he averaged a career-high 19.7 points to lead his team to the regular season and tournament titles in the Sun Belt and receive a bid to the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
