    Minor league report: Alex Nedeljkovic leads Penguins to win

    In his season debut, goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic made 33 saves on 36 shots for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in a 4-3 home win against the rival Lehigh Valley Phantoms at Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

    Nedeljkovic was deployed to the American Hockey League affiliate on Thursday as a conditioning assignment while he recovers from an undisclosed injury he suffered during the preseason.

    Forward Boris Katchouk scored two goals for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (2-1-0-0) while forwards Tristan Broz and Boko Imama each contributed goals. Making his debut with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, forward Rutger McGroarty opened the contest on the third line and did not record a point.

    Highlights:

    The Penguins’ next game is a road contest against the Phantoms on Saturday, 7:05 p.m.

    Forwards Kyle Jackson and Jordan Martel each had a goal and an assist for the Wheeling Nailers who opened their season with a 4-1 win against the Maine Mariners at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland, Maine.

    Goaltender Jaxon Castor made 25 saves on 26 shots in the victory while forward Gabe Klassen and defenseman Philip Waugh each contributed a goal.

    The Nailers’ next game is a road contest against the Mariners on Saturday, 6 p.m.
