Oregon’s 35-0 win over Purdue at Ross-Ade Stadium on Friday was highlighted by one shocking stat about the Ducks’ defense.

Entering Friday, Oregon hadn’t recorded a road shutout since 1992 or any type of shutout since 2012.

In other words, the Ducks recorded their best defensive performance in decades against the Boilermakers, shutting down an offense that scored 49 points last week.

The Oregon defense was anchored by its secondary, which held Purdue to just 93 passing yards. Teitum Tuioti led the way with six total tackles, while Kam Alexander recorded an interception on the final defensive possession of the game.

The Ducks’ last shutout came against Arizona on Sept. 12, 2012, when they rolled the Wildcats 49-0.

Their last shutout on the road, however, came on Nov. 21, 1992, when they beat Oregon State 7-0.

The Boilermakers finished just 4-of-12 and 0-of-3 on third and fourth down, respectively, while Oregon also tallied three sacks and a fumble recovery.

The Ducks will be in action again next Saturday as they host No. 21 Illinois. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. PST and the game will be broadcast on CBS.
