Josh Hart Admits 'I'm Lost' Ahead of Knicks Season Opener

After a pair of blockbuster trades for Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns, the New York Knicks penciled in Josh Hart as their fifth starter, next to Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby. But after a slow start in the preseason, even he is open to trying something different. Hart told reporters as much following New York's preseason finale.

“I’m lost," Hart said on Oct. 18, according to Stefan Bondy of the New York Post . "I have no idea. There’s a couple days before Boston. So whether that’s trying to get a rhythm with that starting unit or we give somebody else a look and my role changes and comes off the bench and go with that unit.”

According to Basketball Reference , Hart averaged 10.6 field goal attempts over 42 starts with the Knicks last season. The early results would suggest that number is going to plummet with the team's star additions.

Bridges and Towns combined to attempt 31.1 shots per game last season, while New York attempted 88.7 as a team. The duo's arrival meant that someone, if not someone(s), was going to see a smaller share of the offensive pie this season.

But is Hart a player capable of impacting the game on a smaller share of touches? His place in the starting five was a product of his ability to do just that. Nonetheless, he doesn't think so. Or at least, it doesn't sound like it.

Hart and the Knicks will travel to TD Garden for an Opening Night matchup with the Boston Celtics on Oct. 22. Tip-off is at 8:30 pm EST.
