NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston is teaming up with the state for a recent campaign, bringing back his iconic character to urge New Mexicans to stop littering.

“We’re telling a story in this. We’re saying that, ‘Look. This is a beautiful, beautiful state,’” said Bryan Cranston.

He’s known for his role as “Walter White” or “Heisenberg” in the Emmy award-winning show “ Breaking Bad .” Cranston recently reprised his role to push New Mexicans to take ownership of their home.

“This is my state, and I want it clean. This is where I live, and I want to keep it clean. If they can just wrap their arms around that, then everyone’s experience, whether you’re a tourist or a resident, will be improved,” said Cranston.

The state’s $3 million anti-littering campaign,’Breaking Bad Habits,’ is what Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham hopes will bring change.

“Sony gave us the licensing at no cost. We paid for some of the professional development. People did not get a paycheck; they volunteered,” said Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham.

While the actor was paid $20,000 dollars for his time, he invested his earnings back into New Mexico through various charities. Giving back to a state, he credits for the biggest change in his professional life.

“There’s a lot to love. It’s not just the physical beauty, but the culture is a rich and deep, and it’s to be embraced and honored and appreciated and celebrated,” said Cranston.

Cranston is also here in New Mexico for the Santa Fe Film Festival. He will be receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Lensic Performing Arts Center.
