The Mustangs, who trailed by as much as 23, kept the Longhorns off the board in the second half and were able to make a comeback for their first District 2-5A D1 win of 2024.The Longhorns came out of the gate and scored on all three of their first quarter drives to take a 22-0 lead. Coronado opened the second quarter with a touchdown to trail 22-6 after missing the PAT.Later in the second quarter, Caprock scored a touchdown to extend their lead at 29-6. On 4th &amp; 7 with 18 seconds left in the half and the ball at the Caprock 13-yard line, the Mustangs found the end zone to trail 29-13 entering halftime.Coronado kept the momentum rolling into the third quarter. The Mustangs scored two unanswered touchdowns in the quarter to trail 29-26.Early in the 4h quarter, the Longhorns were set to punt the ball away, but the punter muffed the snap and proceeded to throw the ball into the back of his own end zone for a safety. The safety brought Coronado within one point at 29-28.Coronado used the safety to their advantage and found the end zone for their first lead of the night at 34-29 after failing to make the two-point conversion. On Caprock's next drive, the Mustangs forced a turnover on downs to get a crucial stop.After Coronado punted the ball away, Caprock tried to march the ball down the field, but the Mustangs picked the ball off to clinch the win.Coronado snaps a six-game losing streak, picking up their first win since the opening week of the season against Wichita Falls Legacy.The Mustangs (2-6, 1-3) play at Amarillo High next Thursday with pregame at 6:45 pm and kickoff at 7 pm on 96.9 The Bull.</div></body>
