Northern Michigan Enjoys a Warm October Weekend with Fire Concerns Looming
GAYLORD — Issued by the National Weather Service at 2:43 AM on October 19, 2024.
Though not record-breaking, this sunny and dry spell comes with its risks. Gusty southwest winds and dry vegetation across the region will result in elevated fire danger throughout the weekend, especially during the afternoons. Officials urge residents and visitors to exercise extreme caution with outdoor flames.
Rain Chances Limited, But Cold Front Approaches Midweek
Saturday night may bring spotty showers to eastern Upper Michigan, but rainfall will be light and sporadic. Most areas, especially south of the Mackinac Bridge, are expected to stay dry through Sunday. Overnight temperatures will remain well above normal, dipping only into the 40s and 50s, offering mild conditions for outdoor enthusiasts.
Looking ahead, a cold front is expected to move across the region by Tuesday night into Wednesday, bringing temperatures back down to seasonal norms. Although the system may bring rain chances, the air remains relatively dry, meaning rainfall accumulations are likely to be minimal.
Marine Weather and Wind Gusts Prompt Advisory
A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect for Lake Michigan waters until 6 PM Saturday due to gusty southwest winds reaching 15-20 knots. Boaters should take caution when venturing out on the lakes, especially in the afternoon when winds may pick up.
