INDIANAPOLIS – An Indiana State Trooper was struck by a vehicle on the interstate on Indy’s south side Saturday morning.

According to Indiana State Police, just after 3 a.m., the trooper was hit while he was outside hit car on I-465 eastbound near US-31 and South East Street. ISP has indicated the trooper was transported from the scene to an area hospital for treatment. ISP did not state the seriousness of the trooper’s injuries.

Per ISP, the trooper was working to help clean up a previous accident on I-465 eastbound when a vehicle struck the trooper’s car. The trooper was standing outside the car at the time, but the collision led to the trooper getting hit by their own vehicle, according to police.

ISP said they believe the driver who caused the crash may have been under the influence of alcohol. That driver cooperated with the investigation and submitted a blood draw. The results of the blood draw are still pending, ISP added.

The trooper has been released from the hospital and is resting at home, ISP said. However, the driver of the other vehicle remains in the hospital from injuries sustained in the crash. Their condition was not listed.
