FL Losing Stores Of "Extreme Value Retailer" As Liquidation Store Files For Bankruptcy, Offers Sales

Florida bargain hunters who have been observant this year know that discount retailers have not been immune to closures. I've written about Family Dollar stores closing in Florida in the summer of 2024 as well as discount furniture store Noll's closing earlier in the year, as a couple of examples. And now Florida will lose stores of another discount retailer - Dirt Cheap.

About Dirt Cheap: This company's website describes the retailer as an "extreme value retailer" that allows customers to buy "major brand customer returns and excess inventory." As a result, the company says it can offer 40 - 90% off retail. There are around 60 locations today.

If you have ever shopped at Ollie's in Florida, I'd argue that the experience is somewhat similar.

The Bankruptcy: Dirt Cheap filed for bankruptcy in mid-October of 2024 and will close all stores. It will liquidate current its stores in anticipation of closures.

The Loss Of Florida Stores: Florida has Dirt Cheap locations in Pensacola. Some Floridians describe shopping here as a bit like a treasure hunt. For example, a reviewer named Jamie wrote:

"If you have the time and patience to look through stuff then you can find some great deals. If you are in need of or looking for something specific then you may want to pass on this store. I do wish they had stations where you were able to do price checks before getting to the register to pay."

One person was able to find high-end brands there. Angel wrote:

"Great place to find name-brand items! Balenciaga, Prada, Valentino, coach. Rag and bone, good American clothing."
