On Christmas Day 2020, our adventure began, departing from Cleveland, Ohio. The roads were blanketed with snow, offering a picturesque scene as we embarked on a 200-mile drive. Despite the initial road challenges, the excitement built up. Our destination? A cabin retreat near Hocking Hills, promising a refreshing experience away from the bustling city life.
Inside the Yellow Dog Cabin – A Cozy Winter Haven
Upon arrival, we were greeted by the Yellow Dog himself, a friendly companion setting the tone for our stay. The cabin had everything to make us feel at home:
Living Spaces: The spacious living room flooded with natural light, offering panoramic views of the lake.
Kitchen: Fully equipped, perfect for whipping up hearty meals to keep us warm.
Bedrooms and Bathrooms: Five cozy bedrooms and three bathrooms spread across multiple levels, featuring high ceilings and refreshing showers.
The cabin's ambiance was serene, and with every corner well-thought-out, it was easy to feel immersed in comfort.
Fun-Filled Moments in the Heart of Winter
The basement turned out to be a hidden gem for entertainment. A massive blackboard wall and a table tennis setup provided endless hours of fun for both kids and adults. Laughter echoed as we competed and enjoyed the laid-back vibe.
Outdoor adventures continued as we explored the lakeside area. The boathouse was picturesque, promising a perfect spot for summer picnics, while the kids made the most of the snow with endless outdoor games.
A Culinary Delight – Homemade Feasts at the Cabin
Our cabin stay also doubled as a food festival. Friends and family came together, preparing and sharing delightful meals:
Lamb Kebabs and Chicken Curry: Flavorful, home-cooked dishes filled the air with mouthwatering aromas.
French Toast and Eggplant Fries: Breakfasts were special, with a personal twist—making bread without a rolling pin!
Mutton Masala: A dish packed with bold spices that added warmth to the cold, wintry atmosphere.
The food was not just sustenance but an experience that connected everyone during the retreat.
Heading Back Home with a Heart Full of Memories
With the roads clear, our journey back to Cleveland was smooth and peaceful. The brief retreat at the Yellow Dog Cabin provided the much-needed break we were looking for—a refreshing way to welcome the new year with loved ones.
