Active Trade Season Could Help Browns Move On From Deshaun Watson

The Cleveland Browns are embroiled in one of their most disappointing seasons in recent memory. As they prepare for a visit from division rival Cincinnati, the Browns are hoping to avoid a 1-6 start that would secure another lost season.

While much of the blame for the sub-par play is laid at the feet of quarterback Deshaun Watson, there are a virtual plethora of reasons the season has gone the way it has. Not the least of which are injuries - especially to the offensive line and running back Nick Chubb.

This week, Cleveland made a deal to send No. 1 wideout option Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills for a third- and seventh-round pick, and it could be the beginning of a sweepstakes of sorts for the Browns.

Off the Cooper trade, NFL Spin Zone's Lou Scataglia thinks Cleveland could become sellers across the board before the trade deadline.

"The 1-5 Cleveland Browns are the most dysfunctional team in the NFL and are somehow still sticking with Deshaun Watson," Scataglia wrote. "My personal opinion is that there is someone or multiple people very highly ranked in the Browns' organization who are now allowing the coaching staff to bench Watson.

"Being 1-6 and having one of the worst QBs in NFL history at this point as the starter is just as rock-bottom as any team can get if we're being honest. The Browns should look to trade more veteran players as they slowly begin to try and move on from the Deshaun Watson era."

The Browns still owe Watson $92 million of guaranteed money. So whatever they do needs to address that and bring more production to the quarterback position.
