ESPN’s “College GameDay” is the premier college football pre-game show for a large contingency of fans.

However, the show and even ESPN itself is under fire for a controversial segment that aired during Saturday’s broadcast featuring polarizing comedian Tony Hinchcliffe.

During Pat McAfee’s popular kicking segment in which he has a fan from the crowd — typically a student from the fan base of the home team where the show is that week — attempt a field goal for varying amounts of money, Hinchcliffe made some disparaging remarks about the fan attempting the kick.

The 40-year-old comedian referred to the contestant, who was wearing a Texas-colored burnt orange button-up, khaki pants and a Home Depot hardhat, as a “prepubescent lesbian” and a “Brokeback Bob the Builder,” which drew some visceral reactions from social media.

“What is going on with College Football Gameday? Goodness me,” one fan wrote .

“They have got to get him off the air,” another commented .

“Nothing like good old fashioned Texas homophobia,” exclaimed another .

“Gameday continues to get more and more obnoxious,” proclaimed one user .

“The show is such trash,” added another fan .

“Wut tf? how was this allowed?” asked one user .

    “Trash,” quipped another user .

“Homophobia is not funny,” remarked one fan .

McAfee appeared to be uncomfortable with the jokes Hinchcliffe was making. Both times he responded with an “OK,” as if to say “that’s enough,” and he even suggested that he didn’t think the jokes were appropriate.

Hinchcliffe has a reputation for rubbing some the wrong way, and his personal brand of comedy if often criticized as offensive and crossing lines.
