Free program hosted by California Highway Patrol eases teen driver, parent jitters

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be hosting a free Start Smart program on Thursday, October 24th, from 6 to 8 PM at the California Conservation Corps (CCC) facility, located at 1949 Apache Ave., South Lake Tahoe. The class is aimed at helping newly licensed or soon-to-be licensed teenage drivers, aged 15-19, better understand the responsibilities that come with driving in California.

The two-hour program is designed for both teenagers and their parents or guardians, who are encouraged to attend together. CHP officers will lead candid discussions on critical topics such as collision avoidance techniques, the dangers of excessive speed, DUI, and distracted driving. Teens and their parents will also learn about the importance of seat belts, the risks posed by unsafe passengers, and what to do if involved in a collision.

The Start Smart program aims to foster safer driving habits and raise awareness of the responsibilities new drivers face.
