(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A man arrested for a 2017 shooting that wounded two Chicago Police officers is expected in court this weekend. He is the second person to be arrested in connection to the incident.

The name of the 25-year-old taken into custody has not been released. He has been charged with 2 felony counts of first degree attempted murder. He was 17 years old at the time of the shooting in May of 2017.

It happened in the Back of The Yards. A minivan had pulled up and someone from inside opened fire with an assault rifle, striking CPD tactical officers Leo Augle and Colin Ryan. Both survived the shooting.

An 18-year-old man believed to be the driver of the van was arrested during the initial investigation. He pleaded guilty in 2021 to one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm and was sentenced to 5 years in prison.

Police now believe they have the person who actually fired the weapon in custody.
